When I first started getting into Makeup Artistry, There was a lot of trial and errors I had to endure in order to be fully equipped for whatever life threw at me while on set. Here are some tidbits that I’d like to share with you.
Make sure you reiterate the shoot details to either the creative director or photographer you’ll be shooting with. This includes mentioning times, dates and whether or not the location is still the same. You’ll be surprised how quick these things change and how people fail to inform you. Be ready!
The Night Before
It’s great to be overprepared than be underprepared. I know it feels amazing to pack light. But try to pack smart, too! Also, if you feel like you’ll need that random blue eyeliner, bring it with you. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I thought I didn’t need something and ended up needing that very same thing while on set. It happens. Trust your instinct.
Leave early! This saves you time and gives you ample time for error just in case you get lost. (Speaking from experience) Google Maps is your friend.
It’s the day of the shoot. You and the creative director already discussed looks…DO NOT be afraid to speak up if you feel one of the looks fell flat. Remember, your name is on the line too! If you feel like there is something you can do differently that will make the look even better, suggest it!
